A simple derivation of Prelec’s probability weighting function

چکیده
Since Kahneman and Tversky (1979), it has been generally recognized that decision makers overweight low probabilities and underweight high probabilities. Of the several weighting functions that have been proposed, that of Prelec (1998) has the attractions that it is parsimonious, consistent with much of the available empirical evidence and has an axiomatic foundation. Luce (2001) provided a simpler derivation based on reduction invariance, rather than compound invariance of Prelec (1998). This note gives a simpler form of reduction invariance, which we call power invariance. A more direct derivation of Prelec’s function is given, achieving a further simplification.

متن کاملTime discounting: psychophysics of intertemporal and probabilistic choices
Intertemporal and probabilistic choices have been attracting attention in behavioral neuroeconomics. Although recent advances in neuroeconomics demonstrated neural processes underlying intertemporal and probabilistic choices, the roles of psychophysical effects on the choices have largely been understudied. In this paper, we review the roles of psychophysical effects in time and risk attitudes....
متن کاملPsychophysics of the probability weighting function
A probability weighting function w(p) for an objective probability p in decision under risk plays a pivotal role in Kahneman-Tversky’s prospect theory. Although recent studies in econophysics and neuroeconomics widely utilized probability weighting functions, psychophysical foundations of the probability weighting functions have been unknown. Notably, a behavioral economist Prelec (1998) axioma...
متن کاملEvaluating Robustness of SHARP – An Adaptive Human Behavior Model for Repeated SSGs
Several competing human behavior models have been proposed to model and protect against boundedly rational adversaries in repeated Stackelberg security games (RSSGs). One such recent model, SHARP, addressed the limitations of earlier models and demonstrated its superiority in RSSGs against human subjects recruited from the Amazon Mechanical Turk platform in the first “longitudinal” study – at l...
متن کاملThe Ellsberg paradox: A challenge to quantum decision theory?*
We set up a simple quantum decision model of the Ellsberg paradox. We find that the matching probabilities that our model predict are in good agreement with those empirically measured by Dimmock et al. (2015). Our derivation is parameter free. It only depends on quantum probability theory in conjunction with the heuristic of insufficient reason. We suggest that much of what is normally attribut...
